The Springfield Public School District is committed to improving the quality of food served to our students, as well as increasing their access to safe, nutritious and healthy meals. In strong partnership with the District, Sodexo, and our community, Home Grown Springfield is making meaningful changes to our school lunch program. We strive to help all of our students reach their full potential by providing them with access to healthy food choices within the constraints of the USDA guidelines. Continued and improved health optimizes student performance and ensures that students will have the opportunity to achieve personal, academic, developmental and social success.
The January 2019 opening of our Culinary and Nutrition Center “is necessary to accommodate the district’s and Sodexo’s staunch commitment to serve nutritious meals every day for every child.”
Tim Gray, Food Service Administrator for SPS
We will continue to engage in thoughtful partnerships with local, sustainable farms and businesses to source a wide variety of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish to build upon our school lunch menus.
"What we're going to be able to do here is put out the best possible product, a nutritious breakfast and lunch and even dinners now in many of our schools, for our kids that is second to none in the entire country,"
Daniel Warwick, Superintendent of Springfield Public Schools.”
