Breakfast in the Classroom (BIC) is a true Springfield success story. A three-year, district-wide implementation plan was developed and executed in 2015. To date, all Springfield Public Schools have implemented the program, with student participation averaging over 80%.
Studies have shown that students who start their day with a healthy, nutritious breakfast are more attentive and focused in class, which can lead to increased academic performance. Central High School was the first urban high school in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to implement the BIC program.
