Backpack with food image

The mission of the Weekend Backpack Food Program is to end hunger faced by children in Sodexo-partnered school districts by providing them with non-perishable foods in backpacks on the weekends. Sodexo and Springfield School Volunteers help send home backpacks of shelf-stable foods with Springfield students on Fridays.

If you are or know of a student who could use a backpack of food each weekend, please contact your school counselor. If you are a school looking to participate, contact Joyce Lesieur.

Funding for the program is graciously supported by Sodexo employees who sponsor a child for $5.00 per month, Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Health New England. To date, over 11,500 backpacks have been distributed to students and their families. The program is made possible through a partnership with the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
